West Hartford synagogue a local leader in “going green”
Hartford, CT – July 29, 2021 – Verogy, a Hartford-based solar developer dedicated to delivering industry-leading renewable energy solutions and services, along with its partner, Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford, today celebrated the completion and energization of the Synagogue’s rooftop solar energy system. The 178 kW DC system will produce 198,000 kWh annually – the equivalent of powering 16 average homes annually with clean energy.
The celebration kicked off with a program, which included remarks from State Sen. Derek Slap, West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor, Emanuel Synagogue’s Rabbi David Small, President Ken Simon, Past President Mel Simon and others. A reception followed the program.

In addition to generating environmental benefits, the project includes a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under which the synagogue will purchase power at a lower rate than what it currently pays its local utility. With the PPA, the synagogue can expect to see savings on its energy costs over the next two decades.
The Emanuel Synagogue project is the first privately developed and financed PPA project in Connecticut to utilize the Connecticut Green Bank’s Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (CPACE) program. Verogy, the developer and owner of the project, has partnered with the Connecticut Green Bank, which will serve as the PPA payment administrator for the life of the project.
