Prescott Valley/Yuma/Casa Grande, Ariz. – 9/6/2023 – Verogy, a solar energy developer dedicated to delivering industry-leading renewable energy solutions and services, today marked the completion of three solar projects on the roofs of the Kohl’s stores in Casa Grande, Yuma, and Prescott Valley, Ariz. Cumulatively, the solar projects’ 2,176 panels have the potential to offset more than 70% of the stores’ annual energy needs. In total, these three solar projects are expected to produce over 1.6 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy annually, enough to power more than 200 homes for a year. Additionally, every year the solar arrays are projected to offset over 1,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the amount of emissions generated by an average passenger vehicle driven more than 2.9 million miles.
The successful completion of the Kohl’s solar projects in Arizona is the most recent example of the company’s commitment to sustainable solutions and is just one of many steps Kohl’s is taking to reduce its environmental impact. In addition to adopting renewable energy, Kohl’s is also investing in LED lighting in stores, building on responsible business practices, and supporting low-carbon transportation options; of the 26 Kohl’s stores in Arizona, nearly 20 have LED lighting and five offer electric vehicle charging. The company has already installed solar panels on more than 160 of its locations across the United States.
“It has been a privilege to work with Kohl’s to bring these solar projects to life,” said Will Herchel, CEO of Verogy. “We’re not only helping Kohl’s reduce its carbon footprint, but also demonstrating how businesses can take action to mitigate the effects of climate change. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Kohl’s and helping more businesses embrace renewable energy.”
“Solar energy is an important part of how Kohl’s incorporates sustainable solutions in the way we do business,” said Steve Thomas, Kohl’s chief risk & compliance officer. “We’re excited for the completion of the solar projects at these three Kohl’s locations as we continue building on our existing renewable energy platforms in Arizona and nationwide.”
