Solar installation to dramatically reduce energy costs for Meriden-based non-profit
Meriden, CT – December 5, 2022 – Verogy, a Hartford-based solar energy developer dedicated to delivering industry-leading renewable energy solutions and services, and the Women and Families Center (WFC) today announced the completion and energization of a rooftop solar project at the organization’s headquarters on Colony Street in Meriden. With the solar installation now operational, WFC will benefit from significant savings on their electric costs.
“The Women and Families Center has been a great partner on this solar project,” said Will Herchel, Chief Executive Officer at Verogy. “WFC does amazing work and we’re pleased that by adopting clean energy, the agency will now be able to save on their energy costs, which unfortunately have been steadily rising. It was our pleasure to work with such a forward-looking organization.”
In recent years, WFC’s electric bills steadily increased, creating a substantial expense for the agency. Thanks to the new solar project, WFC expects their annual electric bills to be reduced by more than 50%, providing a major savings.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with Verogy to make our clean energy vision a reality,” said Wayne Valaitis, Chief Executive Officer at the Women and Families Center. “Our October 2021 electric bill was $1,308. This past October we were thrilled to see that our bill was only $535; our solar project cut our bill by nearly 60%. The savings on our electric costs will provide a tangible financial benefit, allowing us to direct more of our funding to programs that help families throughout Middlesex County and Greater New Haven.”
WFC’s 45 KW DC solar installation will produce 68,123 kWh annually, allowing 48.32 metric tons of CO2 to be avoided each year. It is also equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 798 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
Verogy designed, engineered, and installed the project, which was then purchased by WFC who will own the project permanently.
